Four Pillar Approach to Curriculum

We will be the first in the world to seamlessly integrate engineering principles in teaching medicine. Unlike traditional medical training which combines basic and clinical sciences, our four-pillar approach means basic sciences, clinical sciences, engineering and innovation, and medical humanities are infused to all four years of learning. We are able to do this by leveraging the vast expertise across the entire enterprise—University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Carle Health System.

Highly Selective Student Recruitment

We will be the first medical college in the world to require high levels of quantitative and computational skills before students enroll. This includes a high-level of proficiency in differential equations, linear algebra, statistics and computational skills. Students will also be selected based on our four key qualities of compassion, competence, curiosity and creativity.

Student Creativity Amplified

We will harness our students’ peak creativity by requiring them to generate a new idea to improve health care delivery during each of their clinical rotations. One of these ideas will be selected for their capstone projects, which will potentially translate to new approaches, technologies and treatments.
